Our Southport Tragedy

I offer trauma-informed tutoring that offers a compassionate and supportive approach to students who need academic support. I recognize the unique challenges that our current tragedy can bring to learning, and I tailor my sessions to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can thrive. By focusing on understanding, empathy, and patience, I help students understand their feelings and experiences as the new academic year begins. Whether it's building trust, reducing stress, or fostering a sense of understanding, my goal is to make education accessible for every student.

Current techniques include those from Sarah Naish’s work-see The A-Z of Trauma-Informed Teaching and Dawson and Guare’s Executive Function work.

Family Support

Does your child struggle with homework, or academics, and you don't know what to do? Does your child need help at school and you're not sure what that should look like? Schedule a private session to discuss your questions, concerns, and your child's needs. We can discuss immediate strategies to try and consider future sessions for your child as needed.

Let's take these next steps, together.

Struggling Readers: Dyslexia & more

Ages 6-11

Every child wants to be a confident reader-let’s help them reach that goal.

Does your child have dyslexia? Does your child need support with phonics? Reading fluently? Understanding what they read? I provide support for all reading areas using the Dyslexia Action Literacy Program (DALP) & other Orton-Gillingham materials aligned with the National Curriculum materials. I can evaluate your child’s reading skills for phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading comprehension. If requested, we can review your child’s literacy reports from their school.

Ages 12-16

Let’s help your child become the confident and competent reader that they want to be.

Does your child have dyslexia? Does your tween or teen still struggle with understanding what they read? With reading fluently? I provide support for these reading areas using the Dyslexia Action Literacy Program (DALP) motivational interviews, reading inventories, and strategies that target reading comprehension. The main emphasis is to evaluate your tween or teen at their current levels, then help them become a more independent and confident reader.

Executive Function Skills Coaching

Is your child smart, but scattered? Curious, but unorganised or always late? Does your child struggle to stay focused or meet deadlines? Support to develop those Executive Function (self-regulation) skills will help. Your child's Executive Function skills will be assessed and used to build a learning profile that shows their strengths and challenges. Specific strategies and techniques to develop stronger Executive Function skills will be applied to school work and home tasks. Help your child become more productive and competent by helping them develop these crucial life skills!

‘Seeing My Time’ - 10 week Course

For schools, small groups, or individuals.

Seeing My Time is a brain-based approach to developing the skills of planning, time-management and organisation. You and your child will improve your ability to plan ahead, meet deadlines, and organise school and work materials. It is an interactive, 10-week (more if needed) curriculum which follows a workbook created by Marydee Sklar. The workbook is designed to be visual, supporting many learning differences, including participants with dyslexia. Seeing My Time is designed to help participants understand why and how they struggle. This creates the accountability and buy-in to actually use the tools and strategies presented in the curriculum. The Seeing My Time program is intended for children age 11 through adults.

Students under age 18 must participate with at least one parent present in the sessions. Family support is very important to the success of the program.

Each participant will need to purchase their own copy of the Seeing My Time workbook for use during the course.

What Families Say

Thank you so much for helping our son find his strengths, for helping his teachers understand his unique profile, and for guiding him in building his 'toolbox' to help him find success in his school setting. It was a turning point for him to start to build a healthier self-esteem, and to believe he could learn effectively and demonstrate it to his teachers. He could articulate his strengths in reasoning skills and use this to draw conclusions and make connections that in turn helped him apply specific tools to read, write or solve number problems. I am so grateful for your kindness, patience, determination, and deep understanding of how his amazing brain works!
